Common Spa Q&A's

It is time to talk spa! In this article, we are going to go over some common questions we get from spa owners. We hope these answers can help you learn something about your spa, too!

  • How often should I clean the filters?

    • We recommend cleaning your filter at least once per month. However, if you have a heavy bather load, sometimes you may need to clean your filter twice per month.

  • How often should I drain and refill my spa?

    • It is best to drain your spa about 3-4 times per year. Fresh water is always good, especially if you are using your hot tub frequently. A small body of water gets saturated quickly, and the only way to fix this is to drain and refill. (Tip: It is good to use Jet Clean when draining, too. This is a chemical that runs though your jets to remove any oils and build up before you add fresh water.)

  • Should I be opening my spa cover every day?

    • It is always a good idea to let your spa water breathe by opening up your cover. If you can do this every day, that would be helpful to your spa. However, it is not mandatory. The more you can open it the better, especially in the summer months.

  • Should I use bromine or chlorine in my spa?

    • This is a complete customer preference, and we sell both! When you use bromine, you float tablets and add non-chlorine shock every week. When you use chlorine, you add it a few times a week (it burns up faster than bromine.) They both work as great sanitizers, you just need to choose your preference!

  • Can I use liquid chlorine in my hot tub?

    • Although it will not harm your spa, we do not recommend this. Chlorine burns off quickly even in the granular form, so the liquid form will not work very effectively.

  • Can I use muriatic acid instead of ph down?

    • Just like chlorine, we also recommend the granular version of this chemicals in your spa. Muriatic acid could cause damage to your spa if added in large amounts, so to ensure safety, always use ph down in the granular form.

  • How can I clean the surface of my spa?

    • There are multiple ways to clean your spa, such as Wipe Out or a cleaning mitt. You can use an all purpose cleaner to gently clean the surface of your spa. It is best to do this when you are draining and refilling the spa.
